According to publicly available information, Shoufei Zhu is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Nankai University and a specially appointed professor by the Ministry of Education. He was born in Taihe County, Anhui Province in November 1977 and is a doctor and a member of the Communist Party of China.

Zhu earned his bachelor's and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Nankai University in 2000 and 2005, respectively. He did postdoctoral research at the University of Tokyo in Japan from 2012 to 2013. Zhu has been working at the Department of Chemistry at Nankai University since 2005 and became a professor in 2013. He has also served as the dean of the Department of Chemistry and the executive vice dean of the Graduate School at Nankai University.

Zhu's research focuses on catalytic organic synthesis chemistry, particularly on key organic synthesis reactions involving hydrogen transfer. He proposed the novel concept of the "chiral proton shuttle," providing a new solution for metal-catalyzed asymmetric proton transfer reactions. He also discovered the catalytic insertion reaction of carbenes into boron-hydrogen bonds, introducing a new approach for the synthesis of organoboron compounds. Additionally, Zhu has developed various highly efficient catalysts for olefin hydrogenation and silylation reactions, enabling the efficient synthesis of various biologically active molecules.
