On March 30th, Xiaomi SU7, one of the few electric cars equipped with physical buttons for in-car use, has an interesting feature: it allows expansion with magnetic physical buttons, as introduced by Lei Jun at the new car launch event.
Reportedly, the product is called the Central Control Screen Physical Button, priced at ¥499. It features a high-end mechanical feel and combines air conditioning buttons with volume controls, allowing one-touch control of car temperature and volume. Additionally, it is equipped with built-in NFC sensing, enabling seamless connection to the car's hotspot with a simple tap of a phone.
Recently, a netizen shared their experience with the new gadget at a Xiaomi store, finding it super user-friendly. All you need to do is attach it right below the central control screen, and it recognizes commands swiftly. You can use it to adjust the air conditioning temperature, fan speed, AC on/off, defog the windows, and even tweak the volume among other things.
Interestingly, on the armrest, the Xiaomi SU7 features a few physical buttons. Specifically, the Max version comes with five buttons for power on/off, adjusting air volume, electric adjustment, and air suspension tweaking. And it turns out, this was a directive from Lei Jun himself.
As for why the electric tail wing adjustment button was retained, Lei Jun mentioned that it was mainly because he had a friend who bought a million-dollar luxury car but couldn't figure out how to open the electric tail wing. It couldn't be demonstrated intuitively, so when designing the Xiaomi SU7, they deliberately kept it.
Additionally, the Xiaomi SU7 is also equipped with a reversible instrument panel. When the driver gets in the car and presses the brake or the start button, it automatically flips, adding a sense of ceremony and offering drivers a unique experience.
