According to a tech blogger, Xiaomi is gearing up for the release of its 5.5G OTA update, which might roll out shortly. This 5.5G refers to 5G-A technology, essentially an enhanced version of 5G. Positioned as a transitional technology between 5G and 6G, 5.5G boasts downlink speeds exceeding tens of gigabits, marking a tenfold improvement in connection speed, latency, positioning, and reliability compared to 5G networks. However, this technology isn't particularly rare, as most new devices equipped with the third-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform and the Dimensity 9300 theoretically support it.

In addition to revealing Xiaomi's progress with 5.5G, the blogger also disclosed that Xiaomi has applied for a patent related to in-car satellite communication. According to information from Tianyancha, Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. has published a patent titled "Method, Device, Medium, and Vehicle for Star Communication." Focused primarily on the automotive domain, this patent aims to enhance star communication speeds, improve the timeliness and convenience of satellite communication channels, and optimize the actual quality of satellite communication. The blogger suggests that this feature will be a new technology for Xiaomi vehicles, although it's currently unclear whether it will be supported in future Xiaomi models or if the existing Xiaomi SU7 can be upgraded via OTA.
Xiaomi's Car Satellite Communication Patent
Actually, the recently launched new model, JiKe 001, has already incorporated this technology in some vehicle models. Time-Space Aerospace, a satellite company under the Geely Holding Group, has established a satellite communication network in the past two years and has already implemented it in multiple Geely vehicle models.
