On April 30th, research firm Canalys released data on the global smartphone market for the first quarter of 2024.
During this quarter, the global smartphone market grew by 10% year-on-year, reaching 296.2 million units. The market performance exceeded expectations, indicating that the smartphone industry has passed its lowest point.
Samsung is leading the pack with a whopping 60 million units shipped, driven by the A series and the new high-end flagship Galaxy S24 series.
Apple, facing challenges from Huawei and others, saw a 16% decline in shipments, dropping to 48.7 million units, securing the second spot with a 16% market share.
Xiaomi, as the top domestic brand, secured a 14% market share with a shipment of 40.7 million units, ranking third globally. The gap with Apple is narrowing continuously.
It's worth noting that Xiaomi is excelling not only in the mid-to-low-end market but also elevating its performance in the high-end flagship segment.
Previously, the Xiaomi 14 series achieved sales of over 1.4 million units within 10 days of its release, and recent reports indicate that the total activation of this series has reached 4.7 million units.
This is a milestone achievement for Xiaomi. In the past, only Huawei has been able to surpass this performance in high-end domestic phones. Xiaomi has finally achieved its small goal in this generation after years of striving for the high-end market.
However, it is worth noting that Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 14 were almost unrivaled in the market due to their positioning as small-sized all-around flagships.
After Xiaomi's dominance for two years, domestic competitors have now started to catch up in research and development. If Xiaomi wants to maintain its performance, it will need to bring out even more powerful weapons in the Xiaomi 15 series.
