On April 23rd, Lenovo Group, in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, announced the industry's first commercially viable high-gloss stainless magnesium alloy. Its corrosion resistance is ten times that of current magnesium alloy products in the industry.

This new material recently won the 2024 International Magnesium Association's award in the deformation processing product category, and its unique innovative features have been highly recognized by the industry. Through the application of AI material genome engineering optimization solutions and continuous innovation throughout the entire process, Lenovo and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have successfully overcome multiple technical challenges, achieving this breakthrough progress. s_da289f0c72184d958731671d1b70330e.jpg It's worth mentioning that the powerful high-throughput scientific computing center "Siyuan No.1", previously donated and established by Lenovo Group's Chairman and CEO, Yang Yuanqing, has provided strong computational support for the development of this new high-luminance stainless magnesium material. The advanced facilities and technologies of this scientific computing center have injected strong momentum into the fundamental research of materials.

Lenovo's dedication to the research and development of high-luminance stainless magnesium alloy materials stems from the relentless pursuit of high aesthetics, high quality, and lightweight properties in consumer electronics products. Maintaining product aesthetics and quality while achieving lightweight properties has always been a significant challenge faced by the industry.

Magnesium alloy, as the lightest engineering material on Earth, has enormous application potential. However, the defect of easy corrosion in traditional magnesium alloy materials has limited their widespread application.

This innovative achievement effectively addresses the corrosion resistance issue of magnesium alloy materials, laying a solid foundation for the commercialization of stainless magnesium alloy. Through a brand-new post-processing technique, products using this material can maintain a metallic luster while significantly improving corrosion resistance. This breakthrough not only expands the application scope of magnesium alloy materials but also brings more possibilities for consumer electronics products.

Lenovo Group has successfully applied this high-luminance stainless magnesium material to its ThinkBook X product, achieving the first commercial application of innovative materials in the industry. The product was unveiled at CES in 2024 and is scheduled for official release in April, expected to generate a warm response in the market. s_b827121164084bb7a2547964f21cf16b.jpg
