On April 16th, at the ongoing National Association of Broadcasters Show (2024 NAB Show) in the United States, AMD demonstrated live the world's first ultra-low latency 8K 10bit HDR streaming solution developed in collaboration with Vindral.
According to reports, this solution operates in a fully local deployment format using Vindral CDN, powered by AMD's Alveo MA35D and based on the AV1 codec. It achieves ultra-low latency, ensuring all viewers maintain synchronized viewing experiences.
Furthermore, to ensure compatibility with lower-end devices, the solution also supports adaptive bitrate streaming.
Vindral CEO Daniel Alinder stated that while 8K has not yet seen widespread adoption in the consumer market, high-resolution content still plays a crucial role in many commercial scenarios.
"Our goal isn't necessarily for the entire market to upgrade to 8K – the implications of that are obvious. We simply aim to showcase what the most ambitious brands should be doing," Alinder remarked.
Sean Gardner, Director of Strategy and Market Development at AMD, remarked, "Vindral focuses particularly on delivering high-quality video even in scenarios with ultra-low latency. The MA35D is specifically engineered for handling such demanding tasks, serving as an excellent showcase of our capabilities."
