On March 27th, at the Baiyun Airport port of entry, Guangzhou Customs recently uncovered a case of a passenger illegally bringing beetles into the country, totaling 439 beetles.

It's reported that customs officers at Guangzhou Customs noticed abnormal images of a passenger's luggage on the X-ray scanner of an inbound flight, showing a large number of objects highly resembling beetles.

Subsequently, customs officers intercepted and inspected the luggage, finding a large quantity of beetles individually wrapped in transparent plastic film, with some beetles showing signs of activity.

After professional identification, this batch of beetles includes 11 different species, with the highest number being the Orange-backed Dung Beetle, reaching 125 specimens. These beetles are not native to China and are classified as alien species.

It is understood that the Orange-backed Dung Beetle is mainly distributed in Southeast Asia, typically inhabiting forests and surrounding areas, feeding on tree sap and fruit. Male beetles can grow up to 10 centimeters in length, with robust and powerful mandibles, and they exhibit fierce and aggressive behavior.

Customs reminds that according to relevant Chinese laws and regulations, unauthorized introduction of alien species is prohibited, and it is forbidden to carry or mail live animals and plants into the country. s_e45d52e8dd5740ca89233969592dad14.jpg
