On March 8th, according to Tianyancha, Microsoft Mobile Communications Limited has undergone a change in its operational status, transitioning from existence to official deregistration.
The company, established in March 1995, boasts a 29-year history, with Benjamin Odoeuf as its legal representative and a registered capital of approximately 138 million USD.
The ownership structure includes Microsoft Mobile (China) Investment Limited holding 95.5%, and Microsoft Mobile Limited (Microsoft Mobile Oy) holding the remaining 4.5%.
The business scope includes the development, technical promotion, technical support, technology transfer, and technical services of communication equipment, electronic products, mobile phones, and computer software and hardware.
The company's cancellation also signifies another setback for Microsoft in the Windows Phone market. In October 2010, Microsoft officially released the first version of its Windows Phone smartphone operating system, WP7.
On June 21, 2012, Microsoft held a press conference to officially announce the new operating system, Windows Phone 8. Unfortunately, it did not support upgrades for WP7 and WP7.5 phones, rendering many recently purchased Lumia 900s obsolete overnight.
Following the launch of Windows 10 Mobile, users discovered that Microsoft's promise that all WP8.1 phones could be upgraded to the official version of Windows 10 Mobile was just empty talk, effectively putting Windows Phones on death row.
A few years back, Microsoft also released the Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 foldable phones, but ultimately had to give up on them.
