Wey Skyline Earns China's First Fire Safety Certification for Hybrid MPVs, Providing Escape Space in 750℃ Heat

On March 21, Wey New Energy officially announced that the Wey Skyline has earned the first Chinese fire safety certification for hybrid MPVs.

Under high-temperature and high-pressure experimental conditions of 750℃, the Skyline achieved five-star safety test results in vehicle safety alerts, emergency rescue, fire protection, and data linkage.

Great Wall Motors' CGO Li Ruifeng further explained that this test simulates what happens when a battery undergoes thermal runaway, with the vehicle using safety alerts, emergency rescue, fire protection, and data linkage to provide early warnings and maintain an escape space.

In reality, the public’s biggest concerns about buying new energy vehicles are not only reduced cruising range and battery degradation. They are also concerned about the thermal runaway of new energy vehicles which leaves no time to escape.

Not long ago, in Haikou City, a Weima electric vehicle spontaneously combusted, even exploding. It took only 5 minutes from when it caught fire to when it burned down to its frame.

If spontaneous combustion occurs following a car accident, the consequences would be unimaginable were the driver to pass out inside the vehicle.

National standards require that in the event of thermal runaway in an automotive traction battery, the battery system must not catch fire or explode within 5 minutes, allowing time for occupants to escape safely.

In this case, the Wey Highland has become the first Chinese electric vehicle fire-safe certified hybrid MPV, demonstrating the vehicle's impressive capabilities in handling thermal runaway.
