Approaching midnight, Wang Liping, Deputy Director (in charge of work) of the Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Ningbo (hereinafter referred to as Ningbo Materials Institute), had just finished participating in a live broadcast on CCTV News, where he shared his thoughts on new productivity and original innovation.

In an interview with the China Science Daily, he continued this topic, opening up further.

"The development of new productivity has far-reaching implications for scientific research and industrial development in the field of new materials." From the perspective of a scientific worker in the materials field, Wang Liping believes that the advancement of new productivity signifies a focus on high-tech, high-value-added leading industries. Among these, new materials, as a fundamental and cutting-edge field, along with being the "chassis technology" of the manufacturing industry, are indispensable material foundations supporting strategic emerging industries and nurturing future industries.

Currently, rapidly developing emerging industries such as new generation information technology, new energy, and intelligent manufacturing have placed higher demands on critical new materials, such as ultra-high purity, ultra-high performance, and ultra-low defects, presenting unprecedented challenges for new material development.

Original new materials possess characteristics of being cutting-edge, disruptive, and leading, with the potential to occupy commanding heights internationally, giving rise to new industrial tracks and being a crucial area for nurturing new productivity. Wang Liping believes that new productivity involves pushing scientific and technological innovation to the extreme through comprehensive, coordinated, all-encompassing, end-to-end, full-chain, and full-lifecycle innovation.

Wang Liping suggests that to accelerate the development of new productivity, efforts can be focused on six "unifications": promoting the organic integration of the rapid upgrading and transformation of traditional industries with the expansion of strategic emerging industries and the orderly layout of future industries; promoting the organic integration of fundamental research original innovation and breakthroughs in key core technologies; promoting the organic integration of all elements throughout the process of science, technology, industry, market, and resources; promoting the organic integration of platforms, talents, education, and technology for coordinated development; promoting the organic integration of the soft environment and hard strength of technological innovation; and promoting the organic integration of national strategic scientific and technological forces with other technological innovation forces.

For Wang Liping, these reflections come naturally. As a frontline scientific worker, he has a relatively deeper understanding of cutting-edge and critical technologies transitioning from the laboratory to applications and solving major national demand problems. As a manager of research institutes, he often interacts with technology companies. As the Vice Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Association for Science and Technology and a member of the Ningbo Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, he has a relatively comprehensive understanding of various industries, talents, and science and technology policies at the provincial and municipal levels.

He mentioned that Ningbo Materials Institute will focus on building innovation highlands, talent highlands, and industrial incubation pioneers in the field of new materials, solidly promoting the resolution of "bottlenecks" in the field of new materials, striving to seize the heights of future new material technological innovation and lead industrial competition; focusing on national strategies and industrial needs, promoting the high-end, green, intelligent, and clustered development of new materials, and accelerating the formation of new productivity.

"In the future, the road ahead is arduous but filled with brightness. Undertaking the heavy responsibility of research and development in the field of new materials is the mission and responsibility of researchers, and I am confident in this." Wang Liping remarked.
