La Mu Mon, May 27 2024 10:00 AM EST

On May 27th, concerns of electric vehicle owners became a reality as a Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV caught fire while charging at a charging station.

Video footage captured by a bystander shows the fierce blaze primarily concentrated at the rear of the vehicle, with sparks erupting from the chassis. The fire rapidly spread from the rear, flames licking into the air, reaching over 2 meters above the ground. The entire vehicle was engulfed in white smoke, and even the charging station behind it caught fire.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene with fire trucks to extinguish the flames. During the firefighting process, a momentary explosion possibly occurred when water met electricity, causing sparks to fly, intensifying the thick smoke at the scene.

This incident took place yesterday afternoon (May 26th) at a charging station on Fengze Road in Pengjiang District, Jiangmen City. The fire spread rapidly, posing significant challenges to extinguish the electric vehicle blaze. The car was ultimately reduced to a charred shell. Currently, the fire department is investigating the cause of the fire. s_5d07985d4170419992e7d3892f633d7b.png
