On April 22, BYD's upscale brand, TANG, officially announced that the TANG U8 Off-Road Player Edition will be launched at 10:00 on April 25; moreover, the TANG U7 will also make its official debut.
The most notable difference between the U8 Off-road Edition and the Luxury Edition is the option to equip a built-in drone bay on the roof, allowing real-time "God's-eye view" observation of the terrain ahead from inside the vehicle.
This drone supports intelligent battery swapping, automatically replacing batteries before takeoff and after landing, and recharging them.
Moreover, it supports automatic storage, eliminating the need for manual drone retrieval and roof closure. Essentially, it's like having a smart drone onboard, where users only need to control the flight, making it incredibly convenient and practical.
In addition, the U8 Off-Road Edition has undergone specialized enhancements to its off-road capabilities. Optional features include a fording tube, metal sports bar, winch, side ladder, side tool platform, and towing-specific equipment such as a tow hook and electrical connectors.
The fording tube of the Off-Road Edition further increases the vehicle's water fording depth. Combined with the U8's emergency floating capability, it significantly enhances the vehicle's ability to navigate through challenging off-road water obstacles.
In other aspects, the U8 Off-Road Edition has a total weight of 4170kg, with a maximum curb weight of 3708kg and a permissible trailer total weight of 2500kg. The powertrain remains consistent with the current luxury version, featuring four independent electric motors with a maximum horsepower of 1200.
For reference, the price of the U8 Luxury Edition is 1.098 million yuan, while the Off-Road Edition, with its additional optional features and enhanced performance, may come with a higher price tag.
