On April 3rd, DingTalk's official website announced an adjustment in benefits for DingTalk Professional and Exclusive Editions, with the storage duration of chat records being extended from 2 years to 10 years.
Public information indicates that DingTalk Professional and Exclusive Editions are premium versions provided by DingTalk on top of its free version. Priced at 9800 RMB/year and starting at 98000 RMB/year respectively, these editions integrate various advanced features and services, including storage, OA approval, AI, security, among others, aiming to meet the high-level demands of enterprises in digital office, internal management, and information security, thereby facilitating efficient, secure, and personalized digital work environments for enterprises.
Previously, the cloud storage duration for chat records in DingTalk Professional Edition was 2 years, while in the Exclusive Edition, it was also 2 years, with exclusive message storage service determined by the enterprise's local storage duration.
Below is the original announcement from the DingTalk official website:
The storage duration of chat records for DingTalk Professional and Exclusive Edition users has been extended from 2 years to a maximum of 10 years, along with the provision of secure and reliable enterprise storage space and various data asset protection services, empowering enterprises to grow rapidly.
In the past two years, with the continuous increase in storage costs, the reduction of benefits in collaborative office products has become a mainstream trend:
In early 2023, Feishu updated its pricing policy, significantly reducing the benefits for free users, including reducing the number of contacts in the address book to 100 people, shrinking document cloud storage space from 50G to 10G, and changing chat record storage from permanent free to only retaining for 180 days, among others. Similarly, the chat records in WeChat Work are not supported for long-term retention, with a maximum cloud storage duration of only 90 days. Therefore, the information in chat records will expire, and cannot be viewed beyond the retention period. Enterprises need to use external plugins to archive chat records.
Industry experts believe that against the backdrop of generally reducing operating costs for ToB products, DingTalk's enhancement of benefits for its commercial versions may be aimed at alleviating the operational pressure on enterprise customers, while also impacting enterprise customers' platform choices, further intensifying industry competition.
