According to the latest leaks from @Digital Chat Station, flagship iterations from OPPO, OnePlus, and realme are all undergoing testing for ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint technology, with the potential to replace the current ultra-thin optical solutions.
Previously, the source also disclosed that Xiaomi's Snapdragon 8 Gen4 new flagship is undergoing testing with domestically produced single-point ultrasonic fingerprint unlocking technology.
Fingerprint unlock is widely known as a standard feature on most smartphones and the preferred method of unlocking for many. With just a gentle touch, the phone unlocks effortlessly.
However, fingerprint unlock can also be categorized. Currently, most smartphones on the market use optical fingerprint recognition technology, with only a few models like iQOO12 Pro, Meizu 21/21 Pro employing ultrasonic fingerprint technology.
In terms of technological maturity, both ultrasonic and optical fingerprint recognition are mature unlocking technologies. Optical fingerprint recognition utilizes the principle of light reflection to form fingerprint images, comparing them with the stored fingerprint templates in the device to achieve unlocking.
Ultrasonic fingerprint technology, on the other hand, is more secure and user-friendly. It relies on the principle of ultrasonic waves reflecting off fingerprint textures. When a finger is pressed against the screen, sensors beneath the screen emit ultrasonic waves to the pressed area, which are then compared and identified, albeit at a higher cost.
The advantages of ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology include strong penetrative capability, resistance to water and stain interference, high recognition rate, support for live detection, and relatively high security.
