According to Variety, the UK's first transgender news presenter, India Willoughby, claimed in an interview with Byline TV that she reported J.K. Rowling to the British police, accusing Rowling of harboring hostility towards the transgender community, including transgender individuals.
Indya Willoughby, former contestant on the UK's Celebrity Big Brother and co-host on Loose Women, has accused J.K. Rowling of repeatedly misgendering her online, citing it as one of the ongoing reasons for their discord.
Willoughby stated, "J.K. Rowling has definitely crossed a line. Legally, I am a woman. She knows I am a woman, yet she refers to me as male. This violates both the Equality Act and the Gender Recognition Act."
She continued, "I have reported J.K. Rowling's comments to the authorities. I don't know if this will be deemed a hate crime, malicious falsehood, or libel — but to me, it's a clear case of breaking the law."
In response, J.K. Rowling stated that she has consulted with a lawyer and believes, "My defamation case against Indya Willoughby is likely to succeed, and Indya's attacks on me over the past few years may have crossed the legal threshold for harassment. Gender critical views are protected as a philosophical belief under the law. No law compels anyone to pretend Indya is female."
Rowling added, "I am aware that lying to law enforcement is illegal. I simply need to explain to the police that, in my view, Indya is a narcissistic man who lives in perpetual rage because he cannot compel women to accept his definition."
In recent years, Rowling has faced criticism for her views on the transgender community, especially transgender women. Now, she is facing intense backlash and criticism for openly opposing transgender rights, putting her at odds with the transgender community and its supporters.
