Reports on March 24 revealed that the US Patent and Trademark Office has published a patent for a MacBook, with the most significant feature being the inclusion of a touchscreen with support for touch and pressure sensitivity.

This isn't the first time rumors about a touchscreen MacBook have surfaced; several similar leaks have emerged in the past. Sc86b6c9d-1906-4d5b-a754-474c9de231ce.png

Apple's stance on touchscreen laptops has historically been staunchly negative. As far back as the 2010 MacBook Pro launch event, Steve Jobs openly ridiculed the idea, calling using a touchscreen on a laptop "an ergonomic disaster."

Tim Cook has also expressed skepticism about touchscreen laptops on several occasions, once mocking Microsoft's first Surface tablet as "a toaster-fridge combo."

However, in recent years, Apple's attitude toward touchscreen MacBooks has been evolving. In 2022, when asked again about the possibility of introducing touchscreen MacBooks, Apple executives no longer outright rejected the idea but instead gave ambiguous responses like "we'll see."

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that a hybrid product combining elements of MacBook and iPad will enter mass production in 2027. Macrumors has also leaked information suggesting that the initial batch of Apple touchscreen laptops will be OLED MacBook Pros, expected to hit the market in 2025.
