On March 25th, Geely's Galaxy E8 successfully tackled the industry's first-ever "20-ton out-of-control truck sideswipe" test at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's safety testing laboratory.

Footage from the experiment reveals a stationary Galaxy E8 being vertically struck on the driver's side by a 10-ton heavy truck traveling at 30 km/h, followed by the vehicle being compressed against another stationary 10-ton heavy truck on the passenger's side.

Following the collision, the passenger compartment of the Geely Galaxy E8 showed no significant deformation, with its body structure robustly withstanding the intense impact from the heavy truck.

Moreover, immediately after the collision, the Galaxy E8's in-car emergency rescue call was activated, with customer service personnel inquiring about the condition of the occupants and providing emergency assistance.

According to reports, the test primarily simulated a side-impact multi-vehicle collision caused by an out-of-control vehicle at an intersection. In rear-end collisions involving passenger cars and heavy trucks, the fatality rate for car occupants can reach as high as 42.6%. Testing a new energy vehicle being sandwiched by heavy trucks on both sides poses an extraordinary challenge in safety testing.

The China Automotive Technology and Research Center conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Galaxy E8 after the collision, revealing that the passenger compartment structure remained intact, providing sufficient survival space for occupants, with no structural failures observed in the A, B, or C pillars.

The installation points and frames of the Galaxy E8's seats showed no significant deformation, with the front seatbelt pretensioners activated, and no belt failures occurred. The side airbags and curtains deployed promptly.

Regarding the vehicle's electrical system safety, the Galaxy E8 quickly shut down high voltage after the collision, with no electrolyte leakage observed from the battery pack, and no fires, explosions, or smoke emitted.

In terms of occupant protection, the crash test dummies inside the vehicle achieved an excellent comprehensive score. In terms of functionality, the Galaxy E8 activated hazard lights promptly after the collision, with door handles automatically popping out, and the E-Call emergency rescue function initiated, automatically dialing out with human customer service support available.

With all safety performance data meeting the requirements, the Geely Galaxy E8 successfully tackled the "industry-first 20-ton out-of-control truck sideswipe challenge." s_944233913d66494a8e768a23f418c8c4.png
