Tongji University and Chinese Academy of Sciences Cooperate to Establish Hua Luogeng Mathematical Science and Technology Elite Class

Tongji University and the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a cooperation agreement in Shanghai on May 9 to establish the "Hua Luogeng Mathematical Science and Technology Elite Class." The unveiling ceremony took place on the same day.

During the event held at Tongji University, discussions on scientific research and talent development cooperation, cooperation agreements, and the unveiling ceremony were conducted. Zhang Ping, the President of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fang Shouen, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongji University, and Zheng Qinghua, the President of Tongji University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended and delivered speeches. Zhang Ping and Zheng Qinghua signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. Witnessed by Zhang Ping, Zheng Qinghua, Dai Yuhong, Vice President of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Xu Xuejun, Vice President of Tongji University, Hua Luogeng's children, Huaguang and Huami, unveiled the "Tongji University - Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hua Luogeng Mathematical Science and Technology Elite Class."

The cooperation between the two parties mainly includes joint training of outstanding mathematical talents, high-level teaching and research cooperation, sharing of research resources, and the establishment of excellent teams. Tongji University and the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will jointly formulate the training program and teaching outline for the "Hua Luogeng Class." The Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will participate in the entire process of talent development, send experts to participate in special lectures, short courses, and other teaching activities, as well as jointly guide graduation theses. Tongji University will assign high-level academic tutors to each student in the "Hua Luogeng Class" to guide them in research training. Students will have the opportunity to conduct research at the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Zhang Ping stated that mathematical strength often influences national strength, and a country strong in science and technology must also be strong in mathematics. The integration of science and education, collaborative nurturing of talents, and sharing of resources are effective ways to achieve the sharing of research resources between research institutions and universities, seek open development, win-win cooperation, and jointly explore effective approaches to cultivating top innovative talents. The Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tongji University have long been engaged in in-depth cooperation, laying a solid foundation for collaboration. It is believed that in future cooperation, both parties will continue to leverage their respective strengths, strengthen cooperation, explore new modes of cooperation, expand new areas of cooperation, elevate talent development and academic exchange cooperation to new heights, promote the improvement of the quality of independent talent cultivation and the output of major scientific research results, and make new contributions to China's early realization of becoming a strong mathematical country.

Fang Shouen expressed that mathematics is the foundation of natural science and major technological innovation. He believed that the cooperation agreement between the two parties will inject new vitality into the construction of basic disciplines such as mathematics at Tongji University and talent cultivation. He hoped that both parties will carry forward the spirit of Hua Luogeng, jointly cultivate outstanding talents in basic disciplines, deepen the integration of science and education, improve the effectiveness of talent cultivation, share advantageous resources, empower each other in both directions, and develop together. With solid cooperation results, better serve the country's strategy of strengthening science and education, building a strong country in talent, and constructing the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center, and contribute to promoting China's modernization.

Zheng Qinghua stated that he hoped to inherit and carry forward the spirit of Hua Luogeng, cultivate a strong sense of patriotism, turn the unremitting pursuit of scientific truth into a mission and practical actions of serving the country through science and education. Learning from Mr. Hua Luogeng's transformation of mathematical theoretical research results into practical productivity to serve the people, and turning academic achievements into effective solutions to urgent real-world problems. Promote the integration of mathematics with other disciplines, better play the leading and supporting role of the mathematics discipline. Selecting good teachers and students, running the "Hua Luogeng Class" well, cultivating and training more mathematical talents for the country.

By integrating high-quality educational resources from both sides, conducting in-depth cooperation, creating a first-class curriculum system, a team of distinguished teachers, and platform conditions, jointly exploring new models for joint training of top mathematical talents and outstanding engineering and technological talents, establishing distinctive and high-level "Hua Luogeng Class," and cultivating a large number of top innovative talents independently for the country. Targeting national strategic needs and key scientific issues in industrial development, sharing resources, conducting joint research projects, promoting the collaborative development and progress of research teams from both sides, and making the necessary contributions to accelerate the construction of a strong country in education, science and technology, and talent, in line with the major strategies of the country, and contribute to advancing China's modernization.
