Guangzhou, May 24 (Wang Hua, Lan Shuchuan) - GAC Group announced on the 24th that the world's first "three-in-one" vehicle wind tunnel laboratory integrating aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and thermodynamics has been put into operation at the GAC Research Institute.

A vehicle wind tunnel laboratory conducts aerodynamic experiments based on simulating the driving conditions of vehicles. The wind tunnel can generate powerful artificial winds and simulate different temperature, humidity, and lighting conditions to test a vehicle's aerodynamic drag, wind noise, thermodynamic performance, etc., providing testing conditions for developing higher-performance vehicles.

Currently, mainstream vehicle wind tunnel laboratories in the automotive industry adopt a dual wind tunnel design, conducting aerodynamic-acoustic wind tunnel tests and environmental wind tunnel tests separately. Transition issues arise when the same vehicle model undergoes different wind tunnel tests.

The GAC wind tunnel laboratory took 8 years to build and covers an area of 4500 square meters. This laboratory integrates the three major projects of aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and thermodynamics into one laboratory, meeting the full-process research and development testing requirements, enhancing experimental efficiency, simulating more complex environmental variables, and increasing more experimental possibilities.

It is understood that the construction and operation costs of vehicle wind tunnel laboratories are extremely high. Currently, the number of vehicle wind tunnel laboratories in mainland China is limited, and most automakers rely on three laboratories to conduct experiments, leading to difficulties in booking and tight experiment schedules.

The inauguration of the GAC wind tunnel laboratory has created a full-process, high-precision, and reliable research and development testing platform, continuously empowering the high-quality development of the Chinese automotive industry.

It is worth mentioning that all key technical indicators of this laboratory are benchmarked against top international wind tunnel laboratories. The "heart" of the laboratory, the fan system, uses an axial flow fan as the power source, composed of 16 carbon fiber blades with a diameter of up to 8.5 meters. The fan's maximum power can reach 2200 kilowatts, maintaining ultra-high control precision. (End)
