On the evening of May 8th, Apple unveiled a series of new products including the 2024 iPad Pro/Air tablets at the "Take Flight" event. The iPad Pro starts at 8999 yuan, while the iPad Air starts at 4799 yuan, both set to be released on May 15th.
Before the official launch of the new products, pulsestacks had the opportunity to experience the Apple 2024 iPad Pro and other new products on-site. Without further ado, here are some beautiful photos and a brief hands-on experience of the new products.
The latest iPad Pro comes in two sizes: 11 inches with a thickness of 5.3mm, and 13 inches with a thickness of 5.1mm. With a body thickness of just 5.1mm, it has surpassed the 5.4mm thick iPod nano to become the thinnest and lightest Apple device in history.
In terms of weight, the 11-inch iPad Pro version weighs 444 grams, while the 13-inch iPad Pro version weighs 579 grams. They are available in silver and space gray colors, both crafted from 100% recycled aluminum metal.
The feel of holding the 2024 iPad Pro in your hand is one of ultimate lightness and a sense of weightlessness rarely associated with such large tablet devices.
This extreme thinness makes it challenging to focus precisely on the center frame when shooting on location, as the side edges are too thin for the camera to focus on momentarily.
The new iPad Pro is able to slim down its body thanks to the use of OLED panels. It adopts a "dual-layer series OLED" design, where the light from two OLED panels is overlaid and fused together, achieving ultra-high brightness and ultimate dynamic range performance.
Thanks to the new dual-layer OLED structure, the all-new iPad Pro boasts a peak brightness of 1000 nits across the screen, with HDR content reaching up to 1600 nits in localized areas. The XDR precision has now reached a "new level," dubbed by Apple as the "Super Retina XDR display."
The new machine also offers the option of nano-texture glass, which undergoes nano-level etching. The nano-texture glass panel can scatter ambient light to reduce glare while maintaining excellent picture quality and contrast.

The GPU also has 10 cores, introducing dynamic cache, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing capabilities for the first time on an iPad. According to Apple, the overall rendering performance is up to 4 times better compared to the M2, while providing equivalent performance with half the power consumption.
According to the Geekbench database, the current highest Geekbench 6 Compute Metal score is 53792 points, achieved by a model with a 10-core M4 processor and 16GB of memory. For comparison, the previous generation iPad Pro 12.9 with an M2 processor scored around 46000-47000 points, indicating a roughly 15% increase in M4 GPU performance.
Furthermore, the highest score obtained in the Geekbench 5 Compute Metal test is 40693 points, showing an approximately 21% improvement over the M2's typical range of 33000-34000 points.
In conclusion, using the M4 chip in a tablet device is definitely "overkill" in terms of performance.
The powerful graphics processor combined with hardware-accelerated ray tracing has revolutionized the graphic rendering capability of the new iPad Pro. During the event, staff demonstrated the ray tracing effects of "Nishuihan" on the iPad Pro to pulsestacks.
In the "Return of the Sword" adventure of Senior Sister, the cave level, when ray tracing is enabled, the real-time global lighting effects are truly stunning, especially the delicate water surface textures, leaving a lasting impression.
Compared to the 2022 iPad Pro, the 2024 iPad Pro has seen a "downgrade" in its camera department. The hardware now features a single rear camera (12MP wide-angle main camera) instead of the previous dual rear cameras (12MP wide-angle main camera + 10MP ultra-wide camera). However, it now comes with a new adaptive True Tone flash, enhancing document scanning capabilities. Additionally, it supports ProRes video recording and Smart HDR 4.

In terms of accessories, Apple has introduced a brand new upgraded Magic Keyboard, featuring a fresh design crafted from precision aluminum material, equipped with a durable outer cover, and an aluminum palm rest.
There are two color options available: black paired with a deep space black aluminum palm rest, and white paired with a silver aluminum palm rest.
In terms of design, the Miao Kong keyboard has added a row of 14 function keys, making it more convenient to adjust screen brightness and volume.
It comes with a USB-C port that supports direct pass-through charging, featuring a suspended stand design that allows for smaller opening angles.
There is also a larger glass trackpad, which now features upgraded haptic feedback. In terms of the on-site experience with pulsestacks, apart from the differences in size, the overall trackpad experience is already quite close to that of a MacBook.
