While mapping street views, cameras often capture some strange things, but the street view shots on the small island of Jukdo have made a dog famous for over a decade, as it relentlessly tracked the street view photographer.
Of course, this tracking seemed to be done without malice; in some photos, the dog appears to be smiling, more like it was introducing its daily life to online friends through the screen.
The dog's name is Maru, who reportedly lived on the island since it was 2 years old. It is friendly and very curious. Especially when the Korean website Daum was capturing street view maps, Maru chose to accompany the photographer on walks.
The dog would walk alongside the photographer, becoming part of the scenery captured in the street view images. There are even reports that it was photographed in over a thousand shots.
You could see it on forest paths, climbing stairs to a lookout point. It ran faster than people, looking back to make sure no one was left behind. Climbing hills, descending mountains, this dog seemed more professional than a tour guide.
The photos were taken in 2010, and the dog passed away a few years ago. Yet, looking at the local street view maps today, the dog's presence is still everywhere, a kind of digital immortality, ensuring it lives on forever.
