On May 25th, the inaugural meeting of the Meteorology and Medical Health Professional Committee of the China Meteorological Service Association was successfully held at the China Meteorological Administration. Ding Yihui, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Expert Committee of the Association, Xu Xiaofeng, President of the China Meteorological Service Association, Sun Jian, Executive Vice President of the Association, and Li Haisheng, Chairman of Huafeng Meteorological Media Group, attended the meeting. More than 80 experts and scholars from the meteorological and medical fields, representing the China Meteorological Administration, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University Third Hospital, Tsinghua University, and others, witnessed this momentous occasion.

With the intensification of global climate change and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, the impact of meteorological factors on human health is becoming increasingly prominent. In December 2023, the host country of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) and the World Health Organization jointly announced the "Climate and Health Declaration," proposing to "place health at the core of climate action, accelerate the development of health systems that are climate-resilient, sustainable, and fair." The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly stated the need to promote the construction of a Healthy China, prioritize the protection of people's health in development strategies, and improve policies for promoting public health. Recently, the China Meteorological Administration issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Modernization of Meteorological Social Services," which also emphasized the active development of tourism and health meteorological services, optimizing the supply of public meteorological services.
During the conference, Xu Xiaofeng congratulated the establishment of the specialized committee. He mentioned that the integration of meteorology and medical health work has created a new research field, facing complex scientific issues, as well as a wide range of topics in coordination, business development, targeted service organization, regulatory standards, talent cultivation, science popularization, and other important aspects. It requires various methods and multi-party cooperation to promote together.

Xu Xiaofeng, Sun Jian, and Secretary-General Qu Yamin successively presented letters of appointment to the deputy chairmen, secretary-general, and head of the study group of the specialized committee.
In the reporting session, experts such as Li Tiantian from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Wang Shigong from Chengdu University of Information Technology, Cai Wenjia from Tsinghua University, and Wu Chanyuan from Peking Union Medical College Hospital, discussed and exchanged in-depth views on the health risks and responses to extreme weather events under climate change, the application and development needs of health meteorology research, and the considerations and explorations of clinical doctors on climate change risks. The participating experts reached a consensus on promoting the transformation and upgrading of health meteorological services and promoting resource sharing between meteorology and medical fields.
It is understood that the next step for the specialized committee will actively establish a platform for learning, scientific research, training, and communication in the field of meteorology and medical health, steadily promote investigation, research, and professional analysis in the field of meteorology and medical health, rely on the media resources of the affiliated unit of the specialized committee - Huafeng Meteorological Media Group, promote "meteorology + medical" popular science research, and contribute meteorological wisdom and strength to the construction of a more efficient, precise, and inclusive medical meteorological service system, supporting the construction of Healthy China.
