On May 16, the Subtropical Agriculture and Ecology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences revealed that the "Technical Specifications for Scientific Observation at National Field Scientific Observation and Research Stations, Volume 1: Ecosystems and Biodiversity - Technical Specifications for Networked Observation of Karst Ecosystems in Karst Regions" was officially published and distributed by the Science Press. This volume was jointly compiled by the Huanjiang Karst Ecosystem Observation and Research Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Karst Farmland Ecosystems in Huanjiang, Guangxi) in collaboration with national karst stations in Puding, Pingguo, Jinfoshan, and others. 6645ca68e4b03b5da6d0ed90.jpg Cover of Volume One of the series. The book takes into account the systematic and inheritable nature of the observation index system. Building upon the research networks of China's ecosystems, the positioning research network of China's forest ecosystems, and national and industry monitoring technical specifications and standards, it breaks through the development focusing on karst above-ground and underground multi-element, multi-process long-term positioning observations. The main content includes observation index systems such as karst desertification risk and recovery effectiveness, eco-karst carbon sink, soil and water conservation, and water environment. It provides unified and clear regulations on the target tasks, observation content, observation indexes, observation plot system, and technical methods for the network observation of karst regional ecosystems.

The National Field Scientific Observation Research Station is one of China's important bases for scientific and technological innovation. Conducting long-term stable standardized scientific observations is the primary task of the National Field Scientific Observation Research Station and is fundamental for obtaining high-quality, long-term continuous scientific data and conducting networked research.

The publication of the series of technical specifications for the National Field Station Observations will promote the standardized construction and operational management of the National Field Observation Research Stations. It will effectively promote the long-term stable development of the research work at the National Field Stations, achieve higher-level research results, better leverage the role of the National Field Stations as scientific platforms, support the construction of China's ecological civilization and beautiful China, and help realize China's high-level scientific self-reliance and self-improvement by providing fundamental support.

To further promote the implementation and application of the technical specifications for the National Field Scientific Observation Research Stations, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently held a workshop in Beijing to promote the above-mentioned standards. This has effectively deepened the understanding of the standards among field station staff, helping to promote the standardized development of ecosystem observation work.
