The Curse of Not Wearing White Clothes While Eating Hot Pot is Broken: New Material Developed by Professor at Shaanxi Normal University

On May 23rd, according to reports from several domestic media outlets, have you ever noticed that whether you're eating hot pot at home or dining out with friends, just when you're enjoying the meal, oil stains from the hot pot seem to magically jump onto your clothes, catching you off guard and dampening your dining mood? Your mind is preoccupied with worries about whether these oil stains on your clothes can be washed off. Not only are these hot pot oil stains hard to remove, but trying to get rid of them might accidentally damage your clothes, causing even more distress.

It is understood that the main fat component in most hot pot bases is butter, which has a relatively high solidification point. The solidification point of pure butter is 35 degrees Celsius, while that of mixed oils containing butter is around 30 degrees Celsius. Oils themselves are insoluble in water, so when hot pot oil splatters onto your clothes, it solidifies by the time you attempt to clean it.

Therefore, some netizens have pointed out that when the "buffs" of spicy hot pot and white clothes stack up, the chance of getting oil stains on your clothes reaches 100%.

The good news is that this "curse" has recently been broken. In the future, all we need to do is carry a paper with a protein coating, and a simple wipe will remove the oil stains.

Reportedly, Professor Yang Peng from Shaanxi Normal University has developed an oil-resistant protein material that can be applied in clothing, food containers, biomedicine, and other fields. This material not only prevents clothes from getting splattered with hot pot oil but also reduces the need for detergents. The related research has received support from the 2023 Qingshan Technology Award.

Professor Yang mentioned that environmentally friendly and low-carbon technologies are closely related to daily life. Financial support from society is crucial for the practical application of scientific research, providing significant encouragement and motivation for researchers. s_43136253c75645229d68d85687fd93a1.jpg
