On March 23rd, the 5th Metallurgical Innovation International Forum kicked off in Beijing. The forum, guided by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association and the Chinese Society for Metals, was hosted by the National Key Laboratory for Green and Low-Carbon Steel Metallurgy at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Over 300 representatives from domestic and international universities, research institutes, technology leadership, R&D management personnel from enterprises, and graduate students attended the event.

With the theme of "Green and Low-Carbon Metallurgy," the forum saw the participation of 11 academicians providing guidance, 4 academicians, and 10 top industry experts delivering keynote speeches. The conference covered significant topics such as innovation in low-carbon technologies for carbon thermal steel metallurgy processes, new technologies for near-zero carbon steel metallurgy, green utilization of resources and process pollution control, as well as the restructuring of steelmaking processes for ultra-low carbon emissions, among others.

Professor Yang Renshu, President of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, delivered the opening remarks. He stated that the forum, guided by the principle of "strengthening exchange, cooperation, and innovation," aimed to deepen connections and exchanges in the industry, explore cutting-edge technologies in efficient and low-consumption metallurgy, intelligent manufacturing, energy conservation, emission reduction, and high-end products, and build an international platform for cooperation and exchange. This would further promote international exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutes, and iron and steel enterprises in the field of metallurgical integration innovation, enhance research capabilities, and contribute to the rapid development of relevant disciplines at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, thus making new contributions to the innovation capacity of the national iron and steel metallurgy sector.

Feng Chao, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation among enterprises, industry associations, and universities through the platform of the Metallurgical Innovation International Forum. He emphasized the need to create a better environment and conditions for the integration of production, education, and research, promote the sharing and optimization of policies, technologies, and talents, and provide strong support for the green, low-carbon, and sustainable development of metallurgy.

Wang Xinjiang, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Metals, pointed out that the overall Chinese steel industry has entered a new round of adjustment cycle, facing unprecedented challenges in its development. As a scientific and technological organization serving the steel industry, the Chinese Society for Metals will provide services and assistance to research talents in the steel industry.

As the chairman of the forum, Academician Yue Qingrui, Director of the National Key Laboratory for Green and Low-Carbon Steel Metallurgy at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, expressed his anticipation to jointly explore new trends, challenges, and opportunities in the development of the metallurgical industry with colleagues, and work together to promote the prosperity and development of the global steel metallurgy cause.
