Tesla adjusts prices globally frequently, Elon Musk reveals the reason: ensuring production matches market demand

On April 22nd, Tesla has been adjusting prices frequently worldwide, with prices going up shortly before they begin to drop, leaving many owners puzzled.

Last Friday, Tesla's U.S. team lowered the prices of the Model S, X, and Y by $2,000 each, and the price of FSD was reduced from $12,000 to $8,000.

Yesterday, Tesla China also lowered the prices of all its models by 14,000 yuan, with the starting price of the Model 3 now at 231,900 yuan.

Regarding Tesla's frequent price adjustments, Musk replied to a netizen, stating that other automakers are also continuously adjusting prices, usually through dealer markups or manufacturer/dealer incentives, and believing that the suggested retail price is the actual selling price is too naive.

"Tesla's prices must be constantly adjusted to ensure production matches market demand."

However, regarding Tesla China's significant price reduction yesterday, some industry insiders believe it is related to Tesla's declining sales and intensified competition in the Chinese market.

Data shows that Tesla delivered 386,810 vehicles globally in the first quarter, an 8.5% year-on-year decrease, and a more than 20% decrease compared to the previous quarter, marking the first quarter-on-quarter decrease in Tesla deliveries in nearly four years.

Additionally, the competition in the Chinese market for new energy vehicles has intensified, with models such as Xiaomi SU7, Zhiji S7, and Wanjie New M7, to some extent, diverting some Tesla customers; and continuous price reductions in domestic new energy vehicles also put pressure on Tesla's prices. s_235bc457dae24ee2b03b09b68301490a.jpg
