Tesla Addresses Waste Water Concerns at Berlin Gigafactory: "100% Recycling Already Achieved"

March 20 - Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory manager, Andre Thierig, has recently clarified waste water treatment issues after the Strausberg-Erkner water association (WSE) filed a complaint last month alleging that Tesla was exceeding waste water discharge limits.

Thierig explained that the WSE complaint referred to industrial waste water, which Tesla has now achieved 100% recycling of.

He clarified that the WSE was monitoring sanitary waste water coming from toilets, kitchens, etc., which is identical to waste water produced in residential households.

As a result, the WSE was including this regular waste water in Tesla's industrial waste water discharge measurements.

Thierig added that even without recycling industrial waste water, Tesla would still meet the WSE's industrial waste water discharge standards.

Tesla also plans to achieve full recycling of all waste water in a further expansion stage, so the waste water treatment contract with the local water association does not need to be adjusted.

Tesla also plans to build another production facility in the future, increasing the Berlin Gigafactory's annual capacity to 1 million cars. 715b9e04-cc7c-4946-8b81-d8e1decf6234.jpg
