On April 21, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences released the "Significant Medical Advancements in China in 2023", with the study titled "Opioid-Induced Fragile Regulatory T Cell-Mediated Withdrawal Regulation" led by Xi'an Jiaotong University and jointly completed by multiple institutions being selected.

The research revealed changes in the peripheral immune microenvironment of opioid addiction populations and established an immunological association between fragile regulatory T cells and addictive behaviors, indicating that peripheral immune dysfunction leading to central structural remodeling is an important factor in inducing opioid withdrawal symptoms. The study emphasizes that addiction treatment should extend beyond the brain and proposes the possibility of targeting central nervous system dysfunction through distal immune therapy, providing a basis for immune intervention in the treatment of opioid addiction.

Led by Xi'an Jiaotong University, the research was jointly conducted by researchers from Xiamen University, Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital, Changhai Hospital, Xi'an Mental Health Center, Ningxia Medical University, and other institutions. The related research findings were published in the top international journal Cell in February 2023, providing a basis for immune intervention in the treatment of opioid addiction.

The 43 entries selected for the "Significant Medical Advancements in China in 2023" highlight a multidimensional comprehensive evaluation based on direct indicators and quantified evaluations from the perspective of informatics, including medical research papers published by Chinese scholars in 2023, domestically approved pharmaceutical products, domestically approved innovative medical device products, etc., with a cumulative collection of data from over 330,000 achievements. 662766dbe4b03b5da6d0d5ed.jpg The project "Regulation of Opioid-Induced Fragile Memory T Cell Mediated Withdrawal" led by Xi'an Jiaotong University and jointly completed by multiple units has been selected.
