On March 15th, reports emerged that Spotify, the music streaming platform, has filed a complaint against Apple with the European Union, alleging that Apple deliberately delayed the review of Spotify's app updates.
Spotify stated that Apple's App Store has failed to comply with EU regulatory requirements and instead rejected updates to the Spotify application.
Earlier this month, Apple was fined €18.4 billion (approximately ¥143.9 billion) by the EU for preventing music streaming services like Spotify from informing users of alternative subscription methods and more favorable pricing, deemed as abusing its dominant position.
The day after the verdict, Spotify submitted an application update to Apple, including an option to make payments outside of the Apple App Store. However, Spotify claims that Apple has not responded since the update submission.
Spotify alleges that Apple is deliberately delaying the process to buy more time to strategize and avoid compliance with the EU Commission's decision.
Simultaneously, Spotify has requested the EU to urge Apple to expedite the approval of the app update.
