Researchers at the Shaanxi Province Institute of Biological Agriculture have recently developed a specific PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) detection technique capable of efficiently and accurately identifying root-knot nematodes and cyst nematodes from soil samples. This technology is expected to shorten the detection cycle of relevant plant nematodes, improve detection accuracy, and provide a basis for precise field control of plant nematodes.

Plant nematodes are one of the four major pathogens causing plant diseases, affecting almost all grains, economic crops, and vegetables. With diverse species, wide host ranges, and challenging control measures, they annually inflict serious losses on industries such as grains, vegetables, fruits, and medicinal herbs.

According to Associate Researcher Chang Qing from the Shaanxi Province Institute of Biological Agriculture, this technique utilizes the genetic specificity of nematodes to rapidly and accurately distinguish between root-knot nematodes and cyst nematodes in soil samples. Additionally, using this method, other plant nematodes in plant tissues can also be rapidly detected.
