On April 23rd, the Weibo hashtag "Say goodbye to unnecessary mandatory facial recognition" sparked discussion.

According to reports from several domestic media outlets, "this is an era where appearances matter." Nowadays, facial recognition is used for payment, attendance tracking, and access control, among other operations.

However, "facial recognition" involves the collection of more sensitive personal biometric information, which may lead to privacy breaches and cause distress to the individuals involved.

In response, some hotels in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou have already scrapped facial recognition check-ins, earning praise from consumers.

Experts suggest that while facial recognition technology offers unique advantages in daily life, facial information, as sensitive personal data, once leaked or unlawfully used, could compromise an individual's dignity or endanger their personal and property security, warranting caution.

According to relevant judicial interpretations, actions by information processors that handle users' facial information without separately obtaining consent or through mandatory facial recognition are deemed to infringe upon the personality rights of natural persons in related civil litigation cases. s_1e2270f1a7f94a6686bced8c3f33b7ff.jpg
