On March 30th, the 2024 Graduate Commencement and Degree Conferral Ceremony of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held at the Huo Yingdong Sports Center in the Minhang Campus. Over 3,300 students received their degrees, completing their "final lesson" at SJTU and embarking on new journeys in life.
Ding Kuiling, the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared his message with all the graduates. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strategic focus while also embracing change and challenges, seizing opportunities for "small breakthroughs" to drive significant development. He urged the graduates to dedicate themselves to solving real problems, achieving great things with "hard power," and leading major changes with "original innovation." He expressed his hope that the students would firmly grasp the logical starting point of innovation, maintain a dedicated attitude towards in-depth research, and actively integrate different fields to transform challenges into opportunities, thus building their core competitiveness. He encouraged them to be bold explorers in uncharted territories and pioneers on new tracks, shifting from following others' "taillights" to leading the direction from the "cockpit."
Ding Kuiling's Message
Liu Tianxiong, Deputy Chief Designer of Beidou Satellite System, shared insights from his own journey to inspire students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to actively engage in key national industries and cutting-edge technologies. He encouraged them to integrate their personal aspirations into the cause of the Party and the nation, striving for greater achievements in the noble endeavors of technological self-reliance, national prosperity and strengthening, and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
During the graduation ceremony, the list of outstanding doctoral dissertations for the year 2023 was announced, including "Recognition List for Graduates Employed in National Key Units, Grassroots Units, and Troops in Central and Western China as well as Northeast China" and "Research on Mechanical Constitutive Modeling and Simulation of Thin Metal Sheet Forming with Variable Path Loading".
