Samsung Display announced today that it has delivered over 1 million high-quality QD-OLED display panels for monitors. This milestone comes two and a half years after the introduction of its QD-OLED technology, leading the display market's shift from LCD to OLED.
Samsung Display's QD-OLED is an innovative self-emissive technology that utilizes blue OLED light filtered through a quantum dot (QD) layer to produce colors. This technology boasts fast response times, high color accuracy, nearly infinite contrast, and wide viewing angles, making it particularly suitable for large-screen devices.
The company began producing QD-OLED display panels in 2022 to meet the growing demand for high refresh rates and fast response times in displays, especially in the gaming industry. This has also led the development of the self-emissive display market.
Currently, the company's QD-OLED product lineup includes 27, 31.5, 34, and 49-inch screens, offering various high-end specifications, including the highest 4K resolution in the OLED display industry and a 360 Hz refresh rate.
Samsung Display has collaborated with 10 global display brands to introduce over 90 QD-OLED displays so far. Many of these are gaming-specific monitors, particularly popular among gamers seeking high immersion and response speed.
Samsung Display plans to expand the market from gaming monitors to professional displays for multimedia and entertainment production. Recently, it has also launched cutting-edge reference monitors for video editing.
The QD-OLED products have received positive market responses. Market research firm OMDIA predicts that by 2029, the annual compound growth rate of the self-emitting display panel market will reach 12.3%, with a market size of $10.3 billion (14 trillion Korean won). This will account for 10% of the entire display panel market. Samsung Display currently holds the top position in the self-emitting display panel market, with a market share of 79.7% as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
