On May 26, according to the latest data report from Canalys, the smartphone market in mainland China saw its first recovery in two years in the first quarter of 2024, with shipments reaching 67 million units, on par with the same period last year.

During this time, Huawei reclaimed the top spot in the mainland Chinese market after 13 quarters, driven by strong market response to its Mate and nova series. Shipments reached 11.7 million units, capturing a market share of 17%, with a remarkable 70% year-on-year growth. In addition to its high-end product line, Huawei released the nova 12 series in December, featuring HarmonyOS 4.0 and support for two-way satellite communication, further expanding the application range of Kirin chips and boosting performance in the mid-range price segment.

This month, Huawei upgraded its P series to Pura 70, incorporating groundbreaking telescopic lens technology to enhance imaging performance, sparking market discussions. With this, Huawei has completed a full iteration of its smartphone products.

A key strategy for Huawei in 2024 is to build intelligent terminal AI capabilities from the hardware and software system foundation, extending the successful practices of ICT and industry-level AI into the consumer electronics field.

With the continuous expansion of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, Huawei is gradually becoming the third largest operating system for smartphones and other edge computing devices in the Chinese market, potentially breaking the duopoly competition of Android and iOS.

The OPPO Reno 11 series has shown impressive performance, helping OPPO quickly rise to second place with shipments reaching 10.9 million units.

On the other hand, Honor, vivo, and Apple, after a strong shipment performance in the fourth quarter of last year, have slowed down. They are currently ranked third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

Honor ranks third with shipments of 10.6 million units, showing a 9% year-on-year growth. Vivo closely follows with shipments of 10.3 million units, experiencing a 9% year-on-year decline.

Apple saw the largest decline among the top five manufacturers, ranking fifth with shipments of 10 million units, a 25% year-on-year decrease. S4db042d6-cf72-4595-98eb-c05e05d39078.png
