Samsung unveiled GDDR7 memory at GTC, designed specifically for next-gen gaming GPUs.

The first GDDR7 memory modules come with a 16GB density with each module holding 2GB. Its speed is pre-set at 32 Gbps (PAM3) but can also be dialed down to 28 Gbps for better yields and overall performance/cost ratio initially.

Samsung claims 20% better power efficiency on the GDDR7 memory while operating at just 1.1 volts, which is lower than the standard 1.2 volts. Thanks to new packaging materials and optimized circuit designs, the GDDR7 runs cooler at these higher speeds, with a 70% reduction in thermal resistance compared to GDDR6.

Leaks suggest that NVIDIA's flagship RTX 50 series card, likely to be called the RTX 5090, will be the first to utilize the new GDDR7 memory. The card is projected to offer nearly double the performance as per leaks.

Furthermore, even with a 256-bit bus, the GDDR7 at its blistering 37 Gbps speeds would offer 1.18 TB/s of bandwidth, surpassing 384-bit 24 Gbps GDDR6. This would significantly aid in boosting the performance of gaming GPUs. s_9c40a11aa65f4eaf84cf7d08ce8ab9ba.jpg
