Research Team from the Oil Crops Institute of CAAS Launches Spring Planting Rush

On April 15th to 16th, in order to implement the deployment of the Central No. 1 Document regarding "consolidating the achievements of soybean expansion and supporting the development of high-oil and high-yield varieties," and effectively increase the planting area of soybeans, the innovative breeding team of the South China Soybean Genetics and Breeding Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences went to Tianmen, Hubei Province to carry out spring planting demonstrations in soybean production fields. During this crucial period of comprehensive spring plowing and sowing across the country, the Southern Soybean Genetic Breeding Innovation Team seized the favorable weather after the Qingming Festival to implement a scientific soybean spring sowing plan using the excellent variety "Zhongdou 63". By optimizing sowing methods and adjusting planting density, they aimed to improve the quality and efficiency of soybean planting.

The selected variety, "Zhongdou 63," is a new soybean variety bred by the Southern Soybean Genetic Breeding Innovation Team using molecular breeding technology. It has overcome the contradiction between high yield and quality, disease resistance, and lodging resistance in soybeans, achieving synergistic improvement in high yield, high quality, and multi-resistance. In recent years, it has been tested to yield an average of 254.7 kilograms per mu, with the highest reaching 344.3 kilograms. It has been promoted on over 1 million mu in the main soybean-producing areas nationwide, playing an important role in enhancing soybean oilseed production capacity.

According to Chief Chen Haifeng, the efficient completion of spring plowing and sowing of soybeans this time was attributed to the selection of excellent seeds and the assistance of full-process mechanization of agricultural machinery and equipment for integrated plowing and sowing. Next, the team will coordinate the integration of the "Five Excellences" mechanism, including good fields, good seeds, good machinery, good practices, and good processing, actively assume the responsibility of stabilizing grain and oil security with the help of science and technology, intensify efforts to increase the yield of major grain and oil crops, and empower the agricultural new quality productivity in the soybean oilseed field.
