Pulsestacks, April 19 - Following the tremendous success of the Mate60 Pro, Huawei unveiled another flagship smartphone series domestically yesterday - the Pura 70 series.
The series includes four models: Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro +, and Pura 70 Ultra. Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Ultra were launched domestically yesterday, while Pura 70 and Pura 70 Pro + are set to debut in China on April 22.
TechInsights, an analytical firm, released a report today stating that the shipment volume of the Mate 60 Pro series (including Mate 60 Pro, Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro +, and Mate 60 RS Ultimate) in China over a span of 5 months (August to December 2023) was 6.2 million units. The Pura 70 series, with an earlier release window and eased supply constraints, is expected to surpass 10 million units in shipments in 2024, positioning it as a major competitor to Apple's iPhone 15 and 16 series.
The report reveals that Huawei debuted its first P series, the Huawei P1, in 2012. The P9 series, launched in 2016, broke the 10 million mark for the first time (total shipments in the launch year). In 2018, the global shipment volume of the P20 series reached 12.7 million units; in 2019, the P30 series achieved a record-breaking global shipment volume of 15.8 million units—its highest sales in the P series. However, starting from 2019, the sales of the P series sharply declined. The P50 series, introduced in 2021, only shipped 1.3 million units (limited to 4G networks). Similarly, the P60 series, launched in 2023, saw shipments of only 1.8 million units.
TechInsights predicts that Huawei's smartphone shipments in China will surpass 50 million units in 2024, with market share increasing significantly from 12% in 2023 to 19% in 2024, reclaiming the top spot in the Chinese market.
Pulsestacks noted that the report also predicts that the Pura 70 series will not be launched in overseas markets this year, but the resilience of the Chinese market will help Huawei climb to the eighth largest smartphone manufacturer globally with a 5% market share. Huawei's strong rebound in the Chinese smartphone market will put pressure on Apple's iPhone. In Q1 2024, Apple's iPhone saw a double-digit annual decline in the Chinese smartphone market. The launch of the Pura 70 series will intensify the competition between Apple and Huawei in this world's largest smartphone market, China.
