March 17th - At the recent China Electric Vehicle Summit (2024), Vice Chairman of the Electric Vehicle Hundred People's Association and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ouyang Minggao, responded to various doubts surrounding new energy vehicles prevalent in society.
He emphasized the importance of conveying "rational and accurate voices" to customers and consumers of new energy vehicles through the conference and media channels. Some people claim that "electrification is a trap set by the West," but according to Ouyang Minggao, this does not align with reality. The development of new energy vehicles is a significant national strategy for China, considering oil security, air pollution, and industrial upgrading.
In 2015, China became the world's largest producer and seller of new energy vehicles, marking the first successful large-scale introduction of high-tech consumer goods in the world.
2016 was a pivotal year for the global transition to pure electric drive technology. After China's new energy vehicle market share exceeded 1%, other countries began their transition.
It is evident that China took the lead in industrializing new energy vehicles. As China transitioned from the phase of importing products to industrial growth, other countries followed suit. The trend towards electrification is irreversible.
Regarding the topic of electric vehicles being more prone to spontaneous combustion, Ouyang Minggao pointed out data from the National Fire Rescue Bureau: In the first quarter of 2023, out of vehicles that caught fire spontaneously, there were 18,360 gasoline vehicles and 640 new energy vehicles.
If we calculate the combustion rate, it is approximately 0.58 per ten thousand for gasoline vehicles (18,360 out of 31,771 million) and approximately 0.44 per ten thousand for new energy vehicles (640 out of 14,452 million), which is "even lower than gasoline vehicles."
In response to the skepticism about why gasoline cars can't also have autonomous driving capabilities, Ouyang Minggao emphasized:
China is also one of the leading countries in automobile intelligence. Electric vehicles have inherent advantages in intelligence, and gasoline cars cannot compete with them in autonomous driving.
He stated that the precision of engine control cannot be compared with motor control, nor can the response time. This is common knowledge, and from the market performance perspective, the current penetration rate of autonomous driving in new energy vehicles far exceeds that of gasoline vehicles.
Furthermore, Ouyang Minggao addressed and clarified doubts about electric vehicles not being new energy vehicles, battery recycling pollution, and energy supplementation issues.
