"State-Owned Enterprises Discovery and Invention Forum" Held in Beijing

On April 27, during the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Meeting, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council held the second "State-Owned Enterprises Discovery and Invention Forum" with the theme of "Collaborating for Future Industrial Development, Building a Clean and Beautiful World." The forum invited global experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs from the technology and industrial sectors to discuss the new requirements for developing new quality productivity, the emerging trends in cutting-edge disruptive technologies, and the future demands for industrial development, aiming to promote technological cooperation and industrial exchanges between state-owned enterprises and global communities.

During his speech, Guo Ping, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, stated that state-owned enterprises will fully implement the new development concept with precision and comprehensiveness. They will focus on technological innovation, act as "question setters," "answerers," and "examiners" in basic and applied basic research, generate more original and disruptive outcomes, strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration, promote technology transfer and industrialization. They will concentrate on industrial innovation, emphasizing forward-looking layouts, resource aggregation, talent-driven initiatives, and scenario-driven developments to explore new paths for future industries. Efforts will be directed towards tackling key core technological challenges, originating original technologies, pursuing high-quality mergers and acquisitions, and fostering cluster development to enhance strategic emerging industries. The focus will also be on upgrading standards, renewing equipment, empowering AI, and controlling carbon emissions to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. They will also emphasize open innovation, actively integrating into the global technology industry network, promoting international technological industry exchanges and cooperation with an open mindset, and enhancing cooperation levels and standards with practical measures to jointly safeguard the security and stability of global industrial supply chains and create a positive open cooperation ecosystem.

In his speech, Mu Peng, Deputy Mayor of the Beijing Municipal People's Government, highlighted Beijing's efforts in recent years to serve national strategies by prioritizing the construction of an international technological innovation center as the first of the "Five Sons" to integrate into the new development pattern. Beijing aims to become a significant source of independent innovation and original innovation. The city strongly supports central enterprises, state-owned enterprises, and private enterprises in focusing on smart city construction, industrial transformation, and upgrading to promote the sharing and utilization of innovative achievements within the state-owned assets system and across industries. In the next steps, Beijing will vigorously develop new quality productivity, strengthen key core technological breakthroughs, enhance original and disruptive technological innovations, accelerate technology transfer, and promote high-quality economic development.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Zhao Dong, General Manager of Sinopec, and Tan Tianwei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology. Discussions on the future development of the energy industry were held by Luo Qi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Engineer of China National Nuclear Corporation, Sun Lili, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Technology Committee of Sinopec Refining and Chemical Engineering Group, and Sergio Orlandi, Deputy Director-General of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organization.

During the forum, 22 leading enterprises in six future industries, including Future Information, Future Networks, Future Space, Future Energy, Future Manufacturing, and Future Health, under the Central Enterprises' Future Industry Sailing Action, jointly released the "Cultivating Future Industries to Develop New Quality Productivity" initiative to the world. They hope to collaborate with all innovative forces globally to enhance cooperation through exchanges, promote development through cooperation, and secure the future by actively nurturing future industries, developing and strengthening new quality productivity to better serve the development of all countries and enhance human well-being.
