On May 23rd, it was reported that Transsion, known as the "African Phone King" from China, significantly boosted the shipments of domestic smartphone chip manufacturer UNISOC in its global market expansion.
According to market research firm Canalys, in the first quarter of 2024, UNISOC's shipments of smartphone processors reached 26 million units, a 64% year-on-year increase, making it the fastest-growing smartphone processor company globally with a market share of 9%.
Transsion's global expansion strategy, especially its active presence in emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East, has brought tremendous growth opportunities for Unisoc.
According to Canalys, Transsion's smartphone shipments in the first quarter reached 28.5 million units, marking an 84.9% year-on-year growth, positioning it closely behind Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi in market share.
Transsion's shipments of the Unisoc smartphone processor contribute over 51% in volume and 44% in revenue, showcasing the close collaboration between the two parties.
Initially targeting the African market, Transsion swiftly captured a market share of 52.5% and a smartphone market share of 36.9% through deeply localized product designs and pricing strategies.
As growth in the African market slows down, Transsion is expanding into other emerging markets, leveraging its cost-effective advantage in the mid to low-end market segments to achieve rapid growth.
In 2023, Transsion saw shipment increases of 37%, 110%, and 47% in the Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Middle East markets respectively, with a 23% growth in the African market.
This growth trajectory has propelled Transsion to become the world's fifth-largest smartphone manufacturer for the first time, while also driving the development of domestic chip manufacturers like UNISOC.
