"Academic Experts Enter Campus" Blue Classroom Opens in Jiangxia

"Blue skies follow, lighting up dreams." On May 24th, the first event of the "Academic Experts Enter Campus" Blue Classroom in Wuhan was held at Wenhua Avenue Primary School in Jiangxia District.

Li Tingjie, a researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, former deputy director, and member of the Wuhan Scientists Science Popularization Group, gave a talk to teenagers on the topic of "The Merits and Heroes of the 'Two Bombs, One Satellite' Program That I Am Familiar With."

At 82 years old, Li Tingjie has long been devoted to the study of the propagation and attenuation laws of rock dynamic and explosive shock waves in rock masses. In 2014, he joined the "Wuhan Scientists Science Popularization Group" as a senior member and has since given over 140 science popularization lectures across the country. In this lecture, Li Tingjie shared his experiences from admiring Professor Wang Ganchang during his student days, choosing a major in mechanics, to working with older generation scientists after entering the workforce. He introduced the audience to touching stories of the founding fathers of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" program such as Deng Jiaxian, Guo Yonghuai, and Lin Junde, who cherished their homeland, scaled new heights, and overcame difficulties.

It is reported that the first session of the "Academician and Expert Visits to Campus" Blue Classroom event was organized by the Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Wuhan Association for Science and Technology, and the Wuhan Education Bureau, with the Wuhan Science Popularization Research Association and the Wuhan Education TV Station as the organizers, and the Jiangxia District Association for Science and Technology and the Jiangxia District Education Bureau as co-organizers. The aim of the event is to deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, enhance scientific education for young people in the context of the "double reduction" in education, further improve the scientific literacy of young people, promote the spirit of science and scientists, and create a good atmosphere of loving and advocating for science in the whole society.

The Wuhan Scientists Science Popularization Group currently has more than 80 members, including 11 academicians. Over the past 15 years, the "Academician and Expert Visits to Campus" program has visited over 800 primary and secondary schools in Wuhan, giving more than 1800 science popularization lectures, benefiting approximately 630,000 people from all walks of life.
