PS5 Pro to Use Zen2 While Zen5 Is on the Horizon! Yet, a Significant Leap Nonetheless

Rumors surrounding the Sony PS5 Pro have been circulating for quite some time, and now we finally have some concrete details that align closely with those rumors, especially regarding the CPU, GPU architecture, and specifications.

Internal Sony documents reveal that the development codename for the PS5 Pro is "Trinity" — while the codenames for the PS4 Pro and PS VR were "Neo" and "Morpheus" respectively, drawing parallels to the trio of main characters from "The Matrix."

In terms of product positioning, the PS5 Pro won't replace or phase out the existing PS5; instead, it will coexist with it, offering a higher-end option for consumers. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0416%2F6c8b25bej00sbztcd000yd000go008og.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg AMD Zen5 architecture is about to debut, but the PS5 Pro will still utilize the Zen2 architecture with 8 cores and 16 threads.

The key difference lies in the addition of a high-frequency mode for the PS5 Pro, boosting the clock speed to 3.85GHz, while maintaining a standard mode at 3.5GHz, offering a 10% difference.

The GPU will undergo a significant leap, upgrading from RDNA2 to RDNA3 architecture, with the number of compute units increasing substantially from 36 to 60. Additionally, it will incorporate some features from RDNA4, especially ray tracing, boasting a "more powerful ray tracing architecture," resulting in an overall rendering performance improvement of up to 45%.

Memory capacity remains at 16GB GDDR6, but the frequency will increase from 14GHz to 16GHz. Moreover, developers will have access to an additional 1.2GB of system memory space, bringing the total to 13.7GB.

Furthermore, the PS5 Pro introduces a "custom machine learning architecture" with up to 300TOPS of 8-bit quantized computing power, supporting PSSR super-resolution scaling technology, Sony's version of DLSS/FSR/XeSS.

Sony has already requested developers to prioritize compatibility with the PS5 Pro this summer. It's not just about running on the console but supporting its advanced features, including higher resolutions, ray tracing, and PSSR.

The release date of the PS5 Pro remains uncertain, possibly arriving during the year-end shopping season. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdingyue.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0416%2F6659bfeej00sbztcd005md000go0098g.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg
