Academician Yang Shi'e was born in Tianjin on August 9, 1931. In response to the call of the Party Central Committee, he joined the army and suspended his studies at Tsinghua University in 1950. In December 1952, he was assigned to participate in the筹建 of the first comprehensive higher military engineering and technology college in New China - the Military Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (Harbin Institute of Technology). He joined the Communist Party of China in 1956. From 1982 to 1987, he served as Vice President of Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering College. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.

Academician Yang Shi'e has been dedicated to the education of underwater acoustics for nearly 70 years. He established China's first comprehensive underwater acoustic engineering major combining science and engineering. He has dedicated himself to cultivating China's first batch of underwater acoustic professionals and young teaching staff, and has built the most important training base for outstanding innovative talents in the field of underwater acoustic engineering, promoting the development of China's underwater acoustic science from scratch, from weak to strong, and from conventional to specialized, and creating a new pattern for China's underwater acoustic education.

Academician Yang Shi'e has long been committed to the research in the field of underwater acoustic channels and sonar system environment, underwater target detection and positioning, underwater emission and reception technology, etc. He pioneered China's deep-sea underwater positioning methods and technologies, and successfully developed a series of internationally advanced underwater systems, achieving major original innovations in the national marine equipment technology. As the chief scientist, he organized China's first large-scale deep-sea underwater survey in the South China Sea, and played a pivotal role in planning, guiding, and promoting the development of China's underwater acoustics, making outstanding contributions to the construction of a maritime power. 65fa7a6ee4b03b5da6d0b80a.png
