  • Born on August 9, 1931 in Tianjin, China
  • Graduated from Tsinghua University in 1950 and joined the Chinese military
  • Participated in the establishment of the Harbin Engineering University (HEU) in 1952, China's first comprehensive military engineering university
  • Became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in 1956
  • Served as Vice President of Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute from 1982 to 1987
