On March 27th, Dell announced that as of February 2nd, 2024, the global workforce has been reduced to 120,000 employees, representing a nearly 10% decrease from the previous year.
Facing a steep decline in personal computer demand, Dell announced layoffs of approximately 6,650 employees in early 2023 (with a total of 13,000 job cuts in the previous fiscal year), nearly doubling the previous fiscal year's total.
In the Chinese market, Dell's PC shipments plummeted by 44% year-on-year, reaching only 3.148 million units, while Huawei surpassed Dell with shipments of 3.986 million units last year, marking an 11% increase.
Despite facing challenges, Canalys remains optimistic about the future of the Chinese PC market, expecting a 3% growth in 2024 and a further expansion to 10% in 2025.
The tablet market is also expected to grow by 4% in 2024 and 2025.
Facing market uncertainties, major PC manufacturers need to flexibly adjust their strategies to adapt to the changing market environment.
