Performance Test of iQOO Neo9 Pro: A Severely Underestimated Smartphone

Niu Bing Gan Mon, Mar 18 2024 08:40 AM EST

The pace of iQOO smartphones this year has been remarkable, with impressive sales figures. Does anyone still remember the iQOO Neo9 Pro?

Priced in the 3000 CNY range, it's truly impressive and a product that has been severely underestimated. Today, let's conduct a performance evaluation to see what this phone is capable of.

Doubt its capabilities? Let's run some benchmarks.

The iQOO Neo9 Pro is powered by MediaTek's flagship Dimensity 9300 processor, which is one of the most powerful mobile chips MediaTek has released to date and also one of the top mobile processors in the current market.

This Dimensity 9300 chip adopts an advanced 4-nanometer manufacturing process, featuring 4 Cortex-X4 cores and 4 Cortex-A720 cores, with a maximum operating frequency of up to 3.25GHz. Its GPU component, the Immortalis-G720, comes with a built-in second-generation hardware ray tracing acceleration engine. It also features a specially developed Q1 chip by iQOO, further enhancing the overall performance of the phone.

Benchmark test results show that the iQOO Neo9 Pro achieved an outstanding score of 2,201,149 in the AnTuTu benchmark test, demonstrating excellent performance. In the GeekBench 6.2 CPU performance test, it scored 2,248 in single-core and 7,666 in multi-core performance. In the 3D Mark WildLife Extreme GPU performance test, it scored an impressive 4,753.

These test results indicate that the iQOO Neo9 Pro is comparable to mainstream flagship models such as the vivo X100 series and OPPO Find X7, which are equipped with the Dimensity 9300 processor. It even performs on par with products like the Xiaomi 14 series and OPPO Find X7 Ultra, which use the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor.

Considering that the iQOO Neo9 Pro is priced several hundred CNY cheaper than similar competing products, its cost-effectiveness advantage is particularly prominent.

Game Performance Testing

Relying solely on parameter data cannot fully reflect actual performance. Therefore, we will conduct real-game tests to evaluate the iQOO Neo9 Pro's gaming capabilities.

For this test, we have selected the highly demanding 3D-rendered game "Honkai Impact 3rd" and the popular "League of Legends: Wild Rift," which has a large player base and requires smooth operation. S850d4c91-6765-42c9-882d-cef4dcc13b99.jpg In the game "Honkai: Star Rail," we've configured it to run at high quality settings with a locked frame rate of 60 frames per second (FPS). During the initial scene exploration phase, the frame rate remains extremely stable.

However, in subsequent combat segments, there are some fluctuations in the frame rate. Despite this, the overall performance manages to stay close to 59 frames per second, ultimately averaging at 59.8 frames per second. This confirms its excellent stability even in complex scenes. Even when running at the highest resolution and 120 FPS mode, the game's frame rate remains consistently smooth, almost like a straight line.

This is thanks to the device's Frame Rate Perception Technology 2.0, which can accurately identify game scenes and workloads frame by frame in real-time, ensuring smooth gameplay even under low load conditions.

Further optimizations

Moreover, the iQOO Neo9 Pro is equipped with the in-house developed gaming-grade chip, the Q1, which is also used in the high-end flagship iQOO 12.

With the support of the Q1 chip, the iQOO Neo9 Pro has been endowed with three key features: enhanced gaming resolution, doubled gaming frame rates, and an upgrade to Frame Rate Perception Technology version 2.0. S0e846ad4-5c51-4450-82fe-f2c2ee84762c.jpg

Sf3025db1-76a5-4eeb-85b2-b6d668d95e3b.jpg Players are no strangers to the concept of enhancing game resolution, a feature that intelligently boosts the visual quality on top of the original resolution.

For instance, in the game "Genshin Impact," even though the base setting can only reach up to 720P, when this feature is enabled, the actual game screen resolution can skyrocket to 1440P, thereby achieving a more detailed and clearer visual representation.

Meanwhile, frame rate doubling technology dynamically inserts additional frames while running the game, allowing games with lower frame rates to run with increased smoothness. This effectively reduces device power consumption, minimizes heat generation, and optimizes battery life while ensuring a smooth visual experience.

For example, enabling frame doubling technology in "Genshin Impact" can significantly boost the original 60 frames per second (FPS) gameplay to an astonishing 144 FPS. This ensures maximum quality and frame rates, delivering a unique and supremely smooth gaming experience.

Overall, the iQOO Neo9 Pro doesn't just rely on the Dimensity 9300 processor and its proprietary Q1 chip working in tandem. Its outstanding gaming stability and comprehensive gaming experience also owe much to the Frame Sense 2.0 technology.

This technology identifies game scenes frame by frame in real-time, precisely calculates loads, efficiently schedules tasks, and consequently saves energy, maintaining a stable high frame rate output. This further solidifies the phone's exceptional performance in gaming fundamentals. s_0fde21fec31e45b58967c5582aa67727.jpg
