As China's population ages, the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Parkinson's disease among the elderly is rapidly increasing. Among individuals aged 60 and above, the prevalence of Parkinson's disease is 1.7%, meaning approximately 5.1 million people in China are affected by Parkinson's disease. Data indicates that the proportion of elderly individuals in China suffering from one or more chronic diseases is also rapidly rising and has reached 75%, with over 30% of this population being either disabled or in an advanced age state. There is an urgent need to cultivate, develop, and strengthen specialized healthcare institutions and workforce dedicated to geriatric care. 6602ba5ee4b03b5da6d0bd08.jpg On March 26th, the unveiling ceremony for the Beijing University International Hospital Branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, affiliated with Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, was held. Both parties aim to advance the establishment of the Beijing University International Hospital Geriatric Medicine Center.

During the event, Liang Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Beijing University International Hospital, expressed that the establishment of the branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases at Beijing University International Hospital affirms the hospital's clinical advantages in geriatric diseases. Beijing University International Hospital will conduct "free screenings and consultations for tens of thousands of people" in the northern part of Beijing, providing health services for eligible elderly residents and enabling them to access high-quality medical services right at their doorstep.

This center will leverage Xuanwu Hospital's expertise in clinical diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases. Focusing on elderly health and common chronic diseases, it will prioritize comprehensive assessment of elderly function and early screening for diseases. For elderly individuals with functional impairments and risks of chronic diseases, personalized health guidance and medical plans will be formulated. A multidisciplinary team will be employed for graded diagnosis and treatment management, collaborating with various specialties (including health check-ups) to provide elderly individuals with integrated, personalized health guidance and medical services. This initiative aims to establish a new model of comprehensive prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services.

The establishment of the Geriatric Medicine Center is a significant move for Beijing University International Hospital, aligning with its strengths and national strategic services. It is a major achievement in implementing the "integrated finance + medical health" strategy of Ping An Group and a significant measure to strengthen discipline construction and enhance medical technology levels. Moreover, it serves as an important driving force for promoting the hospital's high-quality development.

Chen Biao, Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, and Liang Jun signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the establishment of the Beijing Branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases.
