Over 400 Experts and Scholars Discuss Land Spatial Planning and Governance

From April 12th to 13th, 2024, the Discipline Development Forum on Land Resources Management and the Tenth National Forum for PhD Candidates in Land Resources Management were held at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). Over 400 experts and scholars from the field of land resources management across the country attended the event.

Researcher Wang Qingri from the Editorial Office of "Chinese Land Science" and Professor Yang Qingyuan from Southwest University respectively chaired the keynote speeches of the forum. Professors such as Qu Futian from Nanjing Agricultural University, Liu Yan from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hu Zhenqi from China University of Mining and Technology, Lin Jian from Peking University, Tan Rong from Zhejiang University, and Wang Zhanqi from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) delivered on-site reports on the theme of the forum, "Chinese-style modernization and land spatial planning governance." They respectively addressed topics including land conservation and intensive use for high-quality development transformation, land spatial governance and comprehensive rural revitalization, land reclamation policies and technological innovation, land spatial planning and governance, natural resources management systems, and the systematic protection of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands, shedding light on academic discussions from the perspectives of theoretical relations, practical applications, and value innovation. The Development Forum on Land Resources Management Discipline, hosted by Professor Ke-Ning Wu from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Professor Ming-Hao Ou from Nanjing Agricultural University, brought together experts and scholars from the field of land resources management across the country to discuss the construction and development of the discipline to meet the requirements of modernizing land spatial governance in the new era. The forum aimed to provide suggestions for optimizing the national spatial layout, promoting high-quality development, and achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Keynote speeches were delivered by Professor Dao-Lin Zhu from China Agricultural University, Professor Guan-Cheng Guo from Nanjing Agricultural University, Professor Zheng-Feng Zhang from Renmin University of China, and Professor Shou-Geng Hu from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). During the roundtable discussion, experts and scholars deliberated on the development agenda for the new era of land resources management discipline, focusing on development needs, faculty strength, education orientation, and disciplinary innovation. They agreed that land resources management is an interdisciplinary field that integrates social sciences and natural sciences. Future development of the discipline should align with national strategic deployments, deepen the interdisciplinary concept in teaching and research, and establish a distinctive education system. 661c8b97e4b03b5da6d0cdc6.jpg The Ph.D. Forum on Land Resources Management kicked off with fervor, featuring five sub-forums: "Land Spatial Utilization and Planning," "Farmland Protection and Food Security," "Low-carbon Land Use and Ecological Protection," "Land System Reform and Policy Innovation," and "Construction Land Allocation and Urban-rural Integration." Held on the 13th, the event saw 65 doctoral students from 27 universities nationwide, including Renmin University of China, Nanjing Agricultural University, and Zhejiang University, presenting their research progress.

In his concluding remarks, Hu Shougen, Dean of the School of Public Administration at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), emphasized the gathering's significance in bringing together the wisdom of renowned experts and scholars in the field of land resources management. He underscored the strong sense of patriotism and mission demonstrated throughout the forum. Hu called for continued collaboration among experts and scholars in the field to advance the modernization of land spatial planning governance comprehensively, contributing wisdom and strength to the development of the discipline of land resources management.
