President Zhang expressed his hopes for the School's positioning and future layout regarding the establishment of the "Lei Jun Class" and the development of the Robotics Department. He emphasized the significant role played by Lei Jun, an alumnus who made donations to the university, and encouraged leveraging platforms such as the Wuhan Institute of Mathematics and Intelligence, the National Engineering Research Center for Multimedia Software, and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to attract and gather talent. According to domestic media reports, staff from the Office of the School of Computer Science at Wuhan University responded to inquiries about the Lei Jun Class by stating: "After this year's national college entrance examination, the Lei Jun Class will recruit 15 undergraduate students nationwide, majoring in computer science, to admit the most outstanding and ambitious students, with a comprehensive training program spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate studies." He announced on the university's 130th anniversary celebration on November 29 last year that he would donate 1.3 billion CNY to his alma mater, setting a record for the largest single donation since the founding of Wuhan University.
