At the settlement ceremony, Zhang Jie, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chairman of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, warmly welcomed the settlement of the "Newton Apple Tree," hoping that the scientific spirit represented by the "Newton Apple Tree" could inspire more young talents full of enthusiasm and dreams for science to create the future, leaving behind more seeds of science and bearing more scientific fruits.

It is reported that this "Newton Apple Tree," which carries on the inheritance of scientific spirit and wisdom, has both a "birth certificate" from the UK and an "identity card" from China. In 2015, following the active advocacy of scientists such as Yang Fujia, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chairman of the fifth committee of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, and with the vigorous promotion of the then British Consul-General in Shanghai for Culture and Education (now the current British Consul-General) Beau McKee, the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology and the British Trust jointly signed the "Newton Apple Tree" grafting agreement. With the support of the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the British Consulate-General in Shanghai, and other relevant departments, the five branches of this British national treasure "Newton Apple Tree" were successfully pruned and grafted back to China, and scientifically nurtured at the Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai.
